This class is six week class for puppies ranging in age from 10 to 20 weeks plus their family. The class is designed to teach the pups basic commands in a fun play setting. We discuss how to work with and/or prevent the various undesirable puppy behaviors, improve housetraining and many other puppy topics. We also work on socializing the pups in order to desensitize them to unfamiliar puppies and people. Puppies get a 5-10 minute supervised play session at each class.
This is a six week class which is open to all aged puppies and dogs who have not been through any obedience classes yet. Our goal is to have all members of your family work with your dog in a positive and consistent manner. The entire family will be guided on how to establish a leadership relationship with your dog while still being best friends. We begin by introducing you to the proper care and handling of your dog and then basic dog obedience and reprogramming undesirable behaviors. Much of the curriculum focuses on the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen Test. This is a fun class for the whole family, including your dog. Our training method involves positive motivation and play learning. Dogs do not come to Lesson 1.
This is a six week class which is open to all aged dogs and all members of the family. Puppies/dogs in this class should have completed either Pre-Agility or Household Dog Obedience 1. This class is designed to polish your dog’s responses to Sit, Down, Stay, Come, Leash Walking and Attention. Rally Obedience exercises used to add fun to the learning. Dogs come to all lessons.
This is a six week class which is open to any dogs who have completed Household Dog Obedience 1or have been pre-screened. The goal of this class is to prepare the dogs for the American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test and Therapy Dog International test. You will be instructed on how to perfect your dog’s responses to Sit, Down, Stay, Come, and Heel. You will be instructed on desensitizing your dog to strangers, other dogs, loud noises, strange movements, handling and tie-outs. We will include some basic agility and trick training. Our training method involves positive motivation and play learning. CGC/TDI testing after the sixth class.
We conduct frequent Therapy Dog International testing. This test certifies dogs for work in therapy such as nursing homes, hospital and other community facilities. Dogs taking the test must be at least one year old and should be at least at the CGC level in training and temperament. For details of the test, go to www.tdi-dog.org. Call for next test date. Pre-Registration is necessary in order to get a testing time.
Pre-Agility is for puppies/dogs of all ages who have completed at least one obedience course. The class emphasizes better attention, control and obedience with very beginning introduction to agility equipment. Obedience focuses on leash walking, better stays with distractions, targeting, and recalls. The agility introduces dogs to low level agility equipment in order to build the dog’s confidence to new and unusual things. The class is designed to better your dog’s responses to basic obedience commands in a fun play setting.
We have different levels of Agility ranging from novice to advanced. Owners and dogs are instructed on the rules and techniques for Agility. Beginning Agility dogs must have completed at least CGC and be pre-screened by the instructor. All new students/dogs to K9U regardless of level must be pre-screened.
Weaves: Twist on 2×2′s – Three Week course
No experience with weaving needed. Modified 2×2 weave training that will give the student independent weave pole entries, creating a dog that drives through and knows his job regardless of handler position. Students will need to either rent, purchase or build-their-own 2×2 weaves in order to practice homework. Information about equipment coming soon.
Contacts: 2O2O, Just get on it! – Three Week course
Contact obstacle (aframe, dogwalk and seesaw) performance is really several behaviors including the ascent, speed over obstacle and finally hitting the yellow contact zone. Stopped contact training using the 2O2O (2 paws on 2 paws off contacts) method , no experience on contacts needed, exercises can be practiced at home using a 4 ft board. Students will need to either rent, purchase or build-their-own Contact Board in order to practice homework. Information about equipment coming soon.
Jumping: So you think you can jump? – Three Week course
Does your dog look up at you when jumping? Knock bars? Jumps long and cannot negotiate tight turns? Jumps flat with head up? We’ll cover basic jumping skills using one jump, exercises can be done at home. Students will need to either rent, purchase or build-their-own Jump in order to practice homework. This intensive six-week class is designed for dogs that react aggressively to other dogs or strangers; or are so overly stimulated that their social interactions with people and dogs can be inappropriate. Your dog will learn how to maintain his/her composure in the presence of others and behave in non-aggressive ways. You will learn how to handle your dog confidently in public and manage your dog’s environment and behavior for peaceful interactions with people and dogs. The class uses positive reinforcement clicker training methods to modify behavior. Enrollment in this class is very limited to ensure a high degree of personal attention from instructors. Owners must complete the required profile and will be contacted by the instructor prior to completing registration for the class. Owners are strongly encouraged to bring another adult family member or friend to assist. No children are allowed in this class. Dogs do not come to Lesson 1.

This is a three week small group class of only 4 students. It is open to puppies and dogs ages 10 weeks to 12 months. The class focuses on basic obedience and behavior similar to Household Dog Obedience 1; however, each session’s curriculum is customized to the particular needs of the small group.
This class is for pups/dogs who have completed one introductory class (PK or HD1) and need more emphasis on improving Heeling. We incorporate many fun exercises to make Heeling positive and productive.
The Number 1 complaint of most dog owners is that their dog does not Come when called. This is a two week class specifically focusing on COME and is open to all aged puppies and dogs. The first week explains why dogs do not Come when called and teaches a new conditioning technique. The second week works on practicing recalls in class with variables such as distance and distractions.
Rally is the newest AKC dog sport. It is great for senior dogs who no longer show in obedience but still like to work, or for dogs/people that don’t know if they would like traditional obedience, or just for having wonderful quality time with your dog. The first level competition obedience.
Personalized in-home or on location training programs are tailored to your dog’s age, breed, ability, personality and your personal desires. We work with the entire family or all individuals who are present in your dog’s daily life. It is important for everyone to work with your dog consistently and understand the positive training method. We train you to train your dog.
A veterinarian health certificate is required before your dog can participate in class. The certificate must show that your dog is current with DHLPP, Rabies, Bordetella (optional) vaccinations and has had a stool check showing a negative result within the past 2 months. Rabies not applicable to puppies under 6 months.
Tuition is non-refundable once class has begun. Class credit will not be given for missed classes.

Dogs who bark excessively as well as dogs who show any signs of being aggressive and are potentially dangerous to people or other dogs will not be permitted in classes.
Canine University has video surveillance 24/7 for safety and security purposes. Video is not used for other purposes without the consent of the individual(s) recorded.
